The Pocket Square
No breast pocket is complete without a handmade Italian silk pocket square. Also called a handkerchief or a pochette, wearing a pocket square shows that you appreciate a well put together look. And while the handkerchief was once more function than form, today’s pocket square is an essential element of men’s fashion.
All of my pocket squares are handstitched from 100% Italian silk in solid colors and elegant patterns. Silk is a hard-working fabric perfect for any time of year. Many of my pocket squares are available with coordinating ascots.
How to wear a pocket square
There are plenty of ways to fold a pocket square depending on the occasion or your mood.
-
The square fold is the easiest and most popular, and the best for a professional occasion. Fold the pocket square in quarters and insert so that about a half inch is visible.
-
The one corner or tip fold is a square fold placed in the pocket on the diagonal so that only one corner of the pocket square is visible.
-
The two tip or peak fold is a little more elaborate and a nice option with patterned fabrics. Use this fold for a sophisticated but casual look. Fold the pocket square on the diagonal with the two edges slightly askew. Then fold the edges into the center, and insert into the pocket.
-
The puff is for casual occasions. Pull up the center of the pocket square in a puff then turn the outer edges up toward the center of the puff. Insert into pocket.
